If there were no news, how many newspapers do you suppose would sell each day?  If there was nothing with which to be interested, no scandals, no flaps, no gaffes or missteps, how much viewership would CNN or MSNBC have?  If foregone conclusions were actually foregone, how much attention would be paid to “60 Minutes” or “Meet the Press”?  If there was no drama, how much advertising do you suppose would be sold, and how much do you think they could get for it?

There is a foregone conclusion that, if you look closely enough and you know what you’re looking at, should be easy enough for even a novice to spot.  This conclusion is supported in other places than the public media (which I’ll get to in a moment) but you really don’t need to look any further than your local newspaper to know the truth of exactly what I’m about to tell you.  Here’s the secret…

Assuming all the players remain the same, Barack Obama cannot win in November.

This is not conjecture; it’s common sense and, more importantly, there is “private knowledge” that does not get released to the news media that supports this.  In Pennsylvania, for instance, John McCain is polling ahead of Barack Obama in counties that have essentially never been competitive for Republicans even during the Reagan years.  This news comes from what is known as “internal polls”.  You’ll never get to see those unless you’re close to the campaign or you’re pretty intimate with party big-wigs (which, as it happens, I am).  The polls you DO get to see are as much about showmanship as anything; Scott Rasumussen gets paid a hefty sum for his polls, to be sure, but he’s paid quite a bit for his appearances on television too.  If there was no “news”, if there was no “competition”, how much work do you suppose he’d get?

I’m not saying there is no truth to what you see reported on RealClearPolitics.com–there is some.  However, it is exceedingly obvious, particularly in this campaign, that the press has an agenda that they are pushing that includes getting Barack Obama elected at all costs.  Part of the reason for this is their declining revenues and circulation numbers–and the biggest reason those numbers are declining is because America has become aware and grown tired of their incredible bias in favor of the Left.  Much of America now turns to conservative talk radio for a bit of balance (Rush Limbaugh has far more influence on America than the New York Times, L. A. Times and Washington Post combined) and to Fox News for something resembling “fair and balanced”.  You’ll notice that Fox News is watched significantly more than CNN and MSNBC–again, why do you think that is?  The left-leaning press has only one shot of taking those competitors out and returning to their monopoly on the news–it’s called the “fairness doctrine” (a misnomer if ever there was one) which is a law designed to require conservative talk radio stations to air liberal views.  That piece of legislation will not see the light of day unless a Liberal is elected President, and he’s given a Liberal congress to work with, which is one of the reasons the press is so in-the-bag for Barack Obama.

Now let me get back around to the reason for this post.  It’s fairly well known in “private” circles that Barack Obama can’t win in November unless some major radical move is made.  For obvious reasons this is not reported in public BUT, if you look closely enough, you can see it for yourself.  Here’s what you need to look for–editorials that make excuses for Obama’s loss, or that “prepare” you for it.  My favorite of these is the “if Obama loses it will be because of his race”–have you seen any of those around lately?  While his race is certainly a major factor in this contest (and it will definitely cost him severely), it really doesn’t matter whether it’s race, women or lipstick on a pig…if you see the press giving excuses for why he “might” lose, HE HAS LOST.  Remember, this was an election that the Republicans couldn’t possibly win.  Democrats were supposed to elect a President and significantly increase their presence in both houses of Congress.  Have you seen any excuses for the congressional swing yet?  You will.  Remember, when you’re digesting all of this and thinking it through…exactly how many articles would you read by ANYONE, liberal or conservative, if this race was not a race?  The media, the pundits and the pollsters all have a vested interest in maintaining the appearance of a questionable outcome.  Trust me–this race is not even half as compeititive as they would have you believe.

There are two major reasons why Obama can’t win as things stand now.  The first, it has been and will continue to be correctly pointed out, is that he’s Black.  I’ll be blasted as a racist for stating the truth, but truth it is and there’s no getting around it.  I work alongside lifelong Democrats who have never voted for a Republican in their lives; they are not only voting McCain, but they’re helping with the campaign!  Privately a plurality of them tell me that race is the reason.  Simple fact, simple truth, AND I LIVE IN AN EXCEEDINGLY LIBERAL AND “ENLIGHTENED” AREA.  If this is the sentiment here, what is it like in Alabama?

The second reason Obama can’t win is he will not get the Women’s vote.  Younger, more easily duped women perhaps–but the majority (and believe me, it’s a VAST majority) will be voting McCain this year.  Again, polling numbers (both public and private) support this.  Without the female vote in this country, no candidate has much of a chance.  Given the huge numbers of women moving away from Obama, he would be done for no matter what his color.  The Democrats cost themselves the White House when they made Barack Obama their candidate; Barack Obama removed any chance he had WHATSOEVER when he failed to tap Hillary Clinton as his running mate.

Which brings me to the last thing I should mention–the only chance Obama DOES have (and that window is closing rapidly).  If the Obama campaign drops Joe Biden (it will be some mysterious “illness” or somesuch) and brings Hillary on for VP, he could possibly turn things around.  I don’t think it will be enough, personally, but he’ll get back a lot of the vote in places like Pennsylvania.  ADDING HILLARY CLINTON TO THE TICKET IS THE ONLY CHANCE OF WINNING THAT BARACK OBAMA HAS.  If he waits much more than another week or two, even that chance is gone.  I say he has until the second debate, tops.

This is where the public polls are so powerful.  Frankly, the only people who follow those things at this stage of the game are the true “political junkies”…folks like me who wake out of a dead sleep to visions of RCP and Politico articles and blog posts.  AS LONG AS THOSE PUBLIC POLLS ARE RUNNING IN FAVOR OF OBAMA, THERE WON’T BE A CRY FROM THE JUNKIE-PUBLIC TO EXCOMMUNICATE BIDEN AND ADD HILLARY…and as long as that call is not made, Obama can’t really do that.  So long as Barry is up in the polls, he’s all but stuck with his choice…which is why it is SO IMPORTANT that McCain STAY BEHIND in the public polls.  I wake up every day PRAYING to see that Obama is up by 2-5 points.  That makes my morning.

So long as he is, I’ll be celebrating a McCain victory in November.

It seems the Obama team, in their greatest act of desperation to date, has ratcheted up the garbage rhetoric and their own “mock outrage” and, surprise surprise, the Liberal media is abetting their duplicity. You’d think the MSM would have by now learned at least a little lesson–and perhaps MSNBDNC is trying to hide its ties a bit better, while remaining the most ridiculous excuse for a house of journalism in human history–but on balance, they’re still the same old in-the-bag bunch they’ve always been.

Here’s what you do, Mr. McCain and company.

You put them on notice.

No, not polite little “you should try to be more fair” notice. Not whining notice. Plain old NOTICE. It should read something like this:

Dear Main Stream Media;

There’s going to be an election soon and when it’s all said and done John McCain is going to be President. You may not wish to accept that now, but it’s nevertheless true. Just for fun, though, let’s say there’s only a fifty-fifty chance of that happening. IT’S TIME FOR YOU TO CAST YOUR LOT WITH ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER.

See, if you’re going to pretend to be objective while clearly demonstrating your abiding affection for the Democrat in this race, the McCain/Palin ticket is going to make you put your money where your collective mouths are. BEGINNING TODAY, any media outlet clearly pursuing a partisan agenda will receive as good as it gets. You’re wondering what that means, exactly. Well, once President McCain is sworn in, there will be press briefings in the White House. You will each want a seat in those meetings. You will want those seats to be prominent. You will want to be called upon when you have a question. You will hope to have the opportunity to follow up on those questions if you do get to ask them.

YOU WILL BE DENIED ANY OR ALL OF THESE OPPORTUNITIES AS APPROPRIATE.

You’re wondering who decides such appropriateness? PRESIDENT JOHN MCCAIN.

You, the members of the press, have a responsibility to the American people and you’ve clearly abdicated that responsibility. You’ve made it a point to MAKE news, not report it. You’ve created walls of deceit and innuendo and then “reported” on the sensation of it all. You’ve been disingenuous and in doing so you’ve endangered your role. Therefore your role will be diminished or dismissed altogether. The President of the United States can speak to the people of the United States without your help, especially now. The power of the internet has rendered your outlets useless for all intents and purposes anyway. The President has the ability to create an Executive Communications Center into which any American can tap at his or her will. There will be no more spin. There will be the live, unadulterated workings of the Executive Offices. Your presence will no longer be required.

If this is how you prefer communications to be handled when John McCain is President, keep up with your slanted reports. Keep promoting your agenda at the expense of objectivity and honesty. If you think viewership and subscription rates are on the decline NOW, just WAIT until you see the new ECC.

You’ve gotten all the warning you’re going to get. Clean up your act, fire those who continually violate the most sacred rule of journalism, and you’ll have a chance to remain a factor in the American experience. Continue your current path and you do so at your own expense.”

THAT’S how I would handle the media. It’s time these bozos were reduced to the whale-shit level they’ve put themselves at anyway. They’re rapidly becoming irrelevant. Maybe we just need to hasten that descent.

Charles Krauthammer has a wonderful piece in today’s Washington Post (and featured on RealClearPolitics.com) called “Obama’s Altitude Sickness”. The entire essay can be found here:

OBAMA’S ALTITUDE SICKNESS

Here is my response to the message (left as a comment to the RCP article).

“Eloquent and well contemplated, as always. It’s refreshing to see someone so respected who understands the situation and isn’t afraid to call it the way it is.

Whether or not your readers are supporters of Barack Obama, they have to know that he is, after all, just fluff. It isn’t that he doesn’t have the makings of a great politician–he may even have the makings of a great leader someday–but that day is not today, and I suspect he may have done himself irrevocable harm by trying to rush his ascent, like the diver who forgets that swimming hard for the surface seems like a good idea at the time, but ultimately comes with a lethal cost.

It is entirely possible that Sarah Palin may have been thrust upon this stage before she was ready, too…but as you note, her celebrity needs only last a couple of months and then, presuming she’s safely ensconced in Washington, she has time to do the things necessary to prepare for a bigger bite of the pie. Barack Obama, though, will be busy trying to assess and repair (if possible) the damage to a career so full of promise but devoid of patience. He won’t have time to lick his wounds, though. Between the racial chasm that will need strong leaders to refill, and the knife-wielding party hacks he’ll no doubt have to contend with (HOW could you lose an election that was unloseable??), he’ll be very busy indeed. I think, too, he may get a taste of exactly what the Clintons are feeling right now. Such is the time in which we live, and the party with which he has cast his lot.”

…and so I am going to make a stab at change as well–at least temporarily.

This blog has been picking up an increasing viewership in the last few days and, while I feel that some of those who come here are doing so because my acerbic style appeals to them, I nevertheless feel that on occasion one must step back from synicism and sarcasm and remember, if only for a moment, that there’s an important task at hand. The fact is I use humor, slashing arrogance and a biting tongue because it’s fun and I’m good at it. The risk with this approach is that occasionally the message gets lost in the shuffle.

Now I’m not going to change everything about who I am, and I’m certain Barack Obama or someone else of his slant is going to say or do something stupid that is going to force me once again into bitch-slap mode (SEXISM ALERT!), but for the next post, which is forthcoming, I’m going to try to sheath my talons and work within a kinder, gentler framework. I’m going to call for a change from the candidates (and given my gravitas, I’m certain they are going to fall right into line!) and I’m going to explain, to some degree, why I feel the way I do about the candidates and this race. I’m also going to outline why I believe you must–MUST–vote correctly this year, moreso than in any other year since I’ve been involved in politics (28 years, to be exact).

Stay tuned.

If you’re just not sure how much trouble the Obama campaign is in, a few minutes’ listen to the opening of the Rush Limbaugh show this afternoon should help you guage that quite well.  During the introductory part of the episode, Limbaugh was utterly unable to contain himself…not with rage, not with acrimony or sanctimony, but with pure, unadulterated GLEE.  At the risk of making a sexist comment, he was literally giggling like a schoolgirl for a period that must have lasted ten or fifteen minutes.

Now Limbaugh is generally rather effusive anyway, but anyone who has been around people much (as I have) or who has been a radio air personality (as I have) can recognize right-off whether or not someone’s enthusiasm is real or fabricated.  I assure you Mr. Limbaugh was simply beside himself with joy, every bit of it emanating from that place deep inside that we only get to access on very rare occasions.  He was positively overjoyed with how poorly Barack Obama and Joe Biden have played their hand since the Limbaugh show went off the air yesterday.  Like me, Rush Limbaugh recognizes that Obama delivered a fatal blow to his campaign yesterday.  The end has been pretty clearly in sight for a few days now, but Obama passed out field glasses with his “Lipstick on a Pig” comment.

Now today, Obama comes out defiant and belligerent instead of somewhat apologetic.  Supporters of the Democrat nominee might take some comfort in this new stance; those of us with a brain see it for what it is.  This is a last-ditch effort to force the ship back onto it’s preferred course, and to begin defining the “rules” of the contest again.

What Barry doesn’t understand is that the rules have already been written, and he’s broken them without pause.  Not only has he trampled on the obvious ones, he’s defiled the unwritten rules as well.  By showing not the slightest bit of remorse, he’s basically telling the women’s vote that he doesn’t need it.  He may as well have said “Piss Off, Ladies”.  The effect would be just the same.

If you haven’t been offended by Obama’s callous disregard for women, and you haven’t been shocked by his incredible lack of wisdom and judgement, and you haven’t been nauseated by his pedantic dismissal of small-town Americans and the values we hold so dear–well, you’d vote for Vladimir Putin if he was running on the non-Republican ticket this year.  If, on the other hand, you actually HAVE an inkling of common sense and respect for yourself (and the great nation we live in), you’ll reject this guy outright and you’ll do it in dramatic fashion.  The Democrats need to be sent a clear message–DON’T GIVE US AN AMATEUR.  Don’t nominate a guy who is barely ready to run a traffic school.  Nominate someone with some gravitas, for Heaven’s sake.

Y’all remember that Clinton lady you had in your party awhile back?  She might have been someone to think about.  You probably should look into that sometime.

(Hey, I can’t stand Hillary Clinton, but I’d vote for her in a HEARTBEAT over this hack any day of the week.)

The shockwaves over the “Lipstick on a Pig” comment uttered by Barack Obama, here…

…are only just now beginning.  I assure you this is just the very tip of an iceberg that I strongly suspect will completely dismantle the already-fragile Obama campaign.  Well it should.

I want to address some of the defenses that Obama apologists are going to mount for this callous, idiotic statement uttered with purpose by Mr. Obama himself.  The main one of these is going to be “he’s just using a common phrase”.  This much is true–the whole “lipstick on a pig” line is as old as, well, lipstick.  That isn’t the point.  There’s another phrase that has been around almost as long as recorded history, but in THIS race, at THIS time, it would be inappropriate to use the expression “call a spade a spade”.  If John McCain uttered this phrase in any manner addressing Barack Obama, he would be absolutely crucified–as he should be!

You see, this issue goes as much to JUDGEMENT as it goes to any other thing.  Intent is immaterial at this point, although I believe Barack Obama had some intent in his use of the phrase.  Still, it doesn’t matter.  It’s a question of pure STUPIDITY.  Sarah Palin owns “lipstick” at this point, and any attempt to co-opt it will automatically be interpreted BY ANYONE WITH A BRAIN as directed toward her.  In that context, in this race, with female voters paying such close attention to the proceedings and a high-profile woman as one of your opponents, saying something as moronic as this just points to a colossal lack of judgement.  Nobody who actually expects to win this race would purposely use this phrase, unless he’s just out to lunch.

Frankly, that’s exactly what has happened with Barack Obama.  He’s just lost it.  He’s fallen behind in a race he was supposed to win without breaking a sweat.  He’s been overtaken by a strong woman out of nowhere who has stripped his mantle of “star” from him and adopted it herself.  He hasn’t even been able to hold onto his own message of “change”.  He’s suddenly found himself losing ground, losing the support of people who were supposed to be firmly in his camp, and he doesn’t have a clue how or why this has happened.  More importantly, he doesn’t have a clue how to respond to it.  This is why we have this suicidal mistake of a phrase coming from his own mouth this afternoon.

Now let’s discuss the intent of the comment.  While I don’t personally believe he was trying to call Palin a pig, he was absolutely, positively leaving it out on the table, WITH INTENT.  While he may not have OVERTLY been insulting her with the “fish wrapped in paper” phrase, he was positively aware of the connotation that such a phrase carries and was leaving out, again, WITH INTENT.  These are not gaffes, or even oversights.  He did what he did with the intention of having something made of it.  It’s possible these were just intended as laugh lines.  It’s possible they were intended as subtle digs that he could (try to) step away from if they backfired.  No matter what they were, though, they were INTENDED TO CREATE SOMETHING, and as such they demonstrate HORRIBLE JUDGEMENT.  He has either overlooked the backlash (is he really that stupid?), or underestimated the force with which it would envelope him, or he just decided to roll the dice and see if the positives (extra press) would outweigh the negatives (extra BAD press).  Either way, for whatever reasons, he made a terrible, terrible choice.  His campaign will now be made to pay for it.

Of course they are going to come out right away and say that John McCain has used the same expression.  So have I, and so have you–but NOT IN A RACE AGAINST A WOMAN, especially not a woman who has made “lipstick” her trademark.  John McCain most certainly used the comment in reference to a Hillary Clinton bill–but the timing, the situation and the players were all different.  Barack Obama used this phrase intentionally, directing it toward Sarah Palin, while underestimating or ignoring the backlash of his ridiculous mistake.  It’s tasteless and it’s poor judgement and it should bury his campaign forever.

I truly think Barack Obama has completely sacrificed any chance he has of ever reaching the White House.  I will say this much…any self-respecting woman who would vote for this guy now needs to seriously seek professional help–and any self-respecting American who would vote for this guy, given his obvious lack of good judgement, needs to seriously seek a lobotomy.  Nobody in his or her right mind could actually WANT this kind of “leadership” in Washington–especially not in America’s highest office.
